Doing the math, really. With a podcast
Fertilizing better, using the right tractor, understanding what to do after a frost, choosing the right fruit variety: four new episodes of the Terra di Denari podcast dedicated to the economic profitability of agricultural businesses.
Everyone talks about sustainability, innovation, digitalization. But in the end, the real question is always the same: does it work?
Speaking with farmers—those we meet through work, but also relatives, friends, acquaintances—we often hear them ask: how can I make my farm profitable? Or in simple terms, how can I make the numbers add up at the end of the year to make a living and perhaps have something to invest in the business next year?
We have tried, in our own small way, to provide some useful answers. To do this, we went directly to them, the farmers. Farmers of all ages and from all parts of Italy, who face frosts, price increases, droughts, market crises. Who must balance the books, tackle real problems, and make decisions. Who, in a word, know what they are talking about because they have been through it themselves.
A podcast was born from this, and we called it Terra di Denari, because at AgroNotizie® we are still convinced that land has value, that it is true wealth. We did not want theories, stylistic exercises, magical gurus, emotional storytelling: we believe that being an agricultural entrepreneur today also means doing real calculations.
But why a podcast? Because we wanted you to hear their voices, those of the farmers themselves.
In each episode, the protagonist is a farmer who tells his story. The first four episodes were dedicated to risk management, precision irrigation, digital agriculture, and crop protection: you can find them in this article. Artificial intelligence is also a topic that could not be missed, and we dedicated a special episode to it, somewhat different from the others.
In each of these last four episodes, a farmer tells how he reacted after a severe frost, how he identified the most suitable tractor, how he fertilized better, how he chose the right peach variety, and how these choices impacted his business’s balance sheet. In a word, what worked and what did not, without beating around the bush.
Alongside the farmers are technicians, researchers, and suppliers of technical inputs, to better frame the choices and understand their impact.
Terra di Denari consists of eight episodes, all hosted by Barbara Righini, a journalist who has been covering agriculture for years.
The podcast is available on Spotify, Spreaker, and YouTube. All episodes are freely accessible: simply search for “Terra di Denari AgroNotizie” to start listening. The episodes are accompanied by in-depth articles, useful resources, and links to learn more about the topics covered. You can also find them on our dedicated page.
