Improving fruit quality with foliar fertilization
Fomet solutions for application on fruit crops.
In fruit tree crops, foliar nutrition represents an important tool for obtaining fruit with better qualitative characteristics, in order to satisfy the increasingly demanding market requirements. Through its Research Center, Fomet has developed and tested targeted solutions to help achieve this goal.
To improve pulp firmness and increase fruit shelf life, Fomet offers Baseball®, which includes calcium, magnesium, and Ascophyllum nodosum algae in its formulation, which promote and improve the absorption of these two mesoelements. It does not contain nitrogen, as excessive amounts can increase the susceptibility of fruit to cracking. On fruit crops, it is recommended at 3–5 kg/ha per foliar application, starting from the beginning of fruit enlargement.
To increase the sugar content of the fruit, the proposal is Kappabrix®, a product containing potassium carbonate in a form easily absorbed via the leaves by fruit crops. Potassium is an element of fundamental importance in promoting fruit quality, as it favors the synthesis and translocation of sugars. The formulation of Kappabrix® also includes biological activators (Ascophyllum nodosum algae and humic acids from leonardite) that improve potassium absorption and its translocation within the plant. The recommended dosage on fruit crops is 3–5 kg/ha per application, starting from fruit enlargement.
Finally, to promote crop resistance to environmental stresses and stimulate the most important metabolic processes even in difficult conditions, Fomet has developed Vigoramin® Beta, formulated with glycine betaine and levorotatory amino acids that guarantee faster and more effective penetration at the foliar level. Glycine betaine helps preserve plant cell membranes and proteins, while the presence of sugar molecules helps balance the plant’s energy consumption. The product is particularly effective when used before and after stressful events, at a dosage of 2–4 kg/ha via foliar application.
