Improving the productivity of greenhouse vegetable crops

Fomet presents three new solutions, the result of the Research Center’s work

Among the various aspects to consider in the cultivation of greenhouse vegetable crops, nutrition plays a fundamental role in obtaining quality production capable of meeting market demands. In this context, the application of products with biostimulant action, both via foliar and root application, can help to best achieve this objective.

The Fomet Research Center has been dedicated for several years to the development of innovative solutions for crop nutrition, studying the synergistic effects between different fertilizers and matrices. All prototypes are subsequently tested at Fomet’s CFPN (Center For Plant Nutrition) through a rigorous evaluation process divided into several stages, from the controlled laboratory environment to the “open” field, with multi-plot trials, combining substrate, environment, and different types of model plants in successive steps to achieve solid and concrete results.

For greenhouse horticulture, Fomet is presenting three new products from the Vigoramin® line this year, all of which can also be used in organic farming: Vigoramin® Root, Vigoramin® Beta, and Vigoramin® Evo.

Vigoramin® Root, improved rooting and nutrient absorption

Vigoramin® Root stimulates rhizogenesis and the production of secondary roots, thus ensuring better absorption of nutrients throughout all phases of the plant’s vegetative cycle. It helps overcome transplant stress thanks to the antioxidant action of some of its components.

Vigoramin® Root is formulated with five different components: an activator based on humic complexes, yeast extract, amino acids and polypeptides from enzymatic hydrolysis, and finally two different species of brown algae (Ascophyllum nodosum and Ecklonia maxima). The bioactive molecules it contains make it particularly effective and efficient for use in fertigation.

For greenhouse vegetable crops, the indicated dosage is 2-3 kg/1,000 m², applied to the roots after transplanting, with 2-4 applications every 7-10 days. It can also be used for pre-transplant root dipping at a dose of 2.5 g/L of water.

Vigoramin® Beta, a valuable ally in case of thermal, water, and saline stress

Vigoramin® Beta was developed instead to promote crop resistance to thermal stress (high or excessively low temperatures), water stress, and saline stress. In particular, even under difficult conditions, the synergistic action of the components preserves cellular functions and the plant’s enzymatic activities, while stimulating the production of photosynthetic pigments.

Vigoramin® Beta is formulated with glycine betaine and levorotatory amino acids, which ensure faster and more effective penetration at the foliar level; furthermore, the presence of sugar molecules helps balance the plant’s energy consumption. On greenhouse vegetables, it can be applied via foliar application at 200-300 g/1,000 m², or via root application at 0.5-1 kg/1,000 m². It is particularly effective when used before and after abiotic stresses.

Vigoramin® Evo, multipurpose biostimulant

The latest innovation is Vigoramin® Evo, a biostimulant developed to increase the photosynthetic activity of crops, improve nutrient absorption, and promote the plant’s most important metabolic functions. It also favors increased yields and improves the qualitative characteristics of production.

Vigoramin® Evo contains polypeptide chains of different lengths and free amino acids readily assimilable by plants via foliar application. The recommended dose for greenhouse vegetable crops is 150-250 g/1,000 m² via foliar application; it can be applied from post-transplant to fruit enlargement.
