Wheat: improving grain characteristics with foliar fertilizers

In wheat, starting from the end of the tillering stage to the beginning of stem elongation, the plant undergoes vigorous development, and nitrogen consumption becomes very significant. It is essential to ensure adequate nitrogen availability when required by the plant in order to achieve optimal production results. Foliar nitrogen application can be a valuable aid in meeting the crop’s requirements and achieving a satisfactory yield.
Through our Research Center, we have developed several products for the foliar fertilization of wheat, using a careful selection of raw materials and tests conducted both at the CFPN (Center For Plant Nutrition) and in open fields, to evaluate absorption efficiency and effects on both the crop and grain quality.
For conventional agriculture, we recommend Azosuper® Special, specifically designed to provide nitrogen effectively to wheat. It extends the plant’s stay-green period and improves the qualitative characteristics of the grain, particularly specific weight and protein content. It contains nitrogen in four different and balanced forms to meet the crop’s needs gradually and completely. It also provides magnesium, which is important for the plant’s photosynthetic efficiency, and directly absorbable sulfur, which promotes protein synthesis. The recommended dosage for foliar application on wheat is 6-8 kg/ha.
Vigoramin® Power, suitable for both conventional and organic agriculture, provides organic nitrogen, invigorates the plant, and increases its resistance to abiotic stress. It is an exclusive formulation containing four different matrices with biostimulant action in a balanced and synergistic manner: amino acids, yeast extract, and two brown algae (Ascophyllum nodosum and Ecklonia maxima). The recommended dosage for organic wheat is 5 kg/ha via foliar application. In conventional agriculture, it can be used at 2 kg/ha together with Azosuper® Special to increase the plant’s resistance to environmental stress.
Finally, for nitrogen fertilization in organic agriculture, particularly late-stage applications, we suggest Drakula®, a product with strong greening power that promotes increased photosynthetic efficiency in the plant. It also improves the protein content of the grain. It is a fluid organic nitrogen fertilizer derived from the processing of whole blood tissue; therefore, in addition to the hemoglobin fraction, it also contains the plasma fraction (microproteins). This unique feature allows for rapid and total assimilation, especially via the foliage. The proposed dose for foliar application on wheat is 4-6 kg/ha; Drakula® can also be used in a mixture with Vigoramin® Power at 2 kg/ha to maximize treatment effectiveness.
